JEM-PRECIOUS STONES
(Issue #32 -- AUTHENTIC -- August 2005)

If something is authentic, it's real. It's the right one, or the right choice. Some people believe that there are many authentic paths -- but Scripture disagrees with that assumption. Join us now as we discuss the only authentic gate, door, path, and mediator between God and man -- JESUS CHRIST!

John 8: (NIV)
31. To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.
32. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

In His Service,
Matt

POINTS TO PONDER
By: Gwen Tweedy

We all have trouble with trusting a lot of times, that God knows what's best. I got to thinking this...

When we were born.
We were totally dependent upon our parents or guardians to take complete care of us.
We didn't have a choice.
We had to trust
And later we had to go by what they said and told us to do
There was absolutely no choice.

Well, and so it is with God!

If we say that we are God's
We are totally dependent upon Him too.
And We can do nothing without God
So aren't we like those babies and children that have not grown up
And still need God to lead and guide us and tell us what to do?

Just a thought!

QUOTE OF THE MONTH

How can we know that what Jesus has shown us of God is the truth; or how do we know when we look into the face of Jesus that we are looking into the face of God? The answer is so plain and simple that it is a marvel how intelligent men can manage to miss it as they do. Look at what Christ has done for the soul of man: that is your answer. Christianity is just Christ - nothing more and nothing less. It is a way of life, and He is that way. It is the truth about human destiny, and He is that truth.
-R. J. Campbell, The Call of Christ [1933]

TRUE WORSHIPPERS
By: Barbara Lea Campbell

There is a great amount of "falseness" in our world. People use "false" things to enhance their appearance -- false hair, false fingernails... there are even contacts to give you a false eye color and lotions to give you a false tan. Their is false advertising to lure us to buy any and everything imaginable. People are false in their relationships with each other ... often saying what the other person wants to hear, even if it isn't true. Americans learned on 9/11 that we were living with a sense of false security... and many still are today as they base their security on things of the world, such as money and power. There are addicts who are false to themselves, believing they can quit any time they want. There are false religions which worship false Gods. And there are false worshippers...who warm the pews of many Christian churches each Sunday morning.

"Falseness" is rooted in lies.. and lies come from the father of all lies - Satan - "You are of your father the devil, ....does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies." John 8:44 NASB.

In the midst of a world full of falseness, there is Truth and it is found in the One who is True - "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life' " John 14:6a NASB. We need to spend time with Him, in order to walk in the Truth - to live it out daily.

And we need to be true - true worshippers! of the one true God. A true worshipper isn't a Sunday only Christian. A true worshipper knows that worship is more than going to church, singing songs, and praying -- it is a way of life. We worship (or don't worship) the Lord through every action we take... through every word we speak.. every thought we think. It is a mindset - a focus - knowing Whose we are and Who He is. The true worshipper worships in spirit and in truth... "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers." John 4:23 NASB. He / She walks in the Spirit, not the flesh, and acknowledges the Lord every step of the way.

And what is so awesome is those who come in contact with a true worshipper can see it.. they may not know what to call it, but they know there is something different about that person. In that way, a true worshipper is a living, breathing witness to the Truth.

Are you? Are you walking in the Truth or are you lost in the darkness of the world's falseness? Is your focus on the One who is the Truth? Are you a Sunday only Christian or are you a True Worshipper of the one True God? Start spending time with Him today... get into the Word... fall before Him in prayer... praise Him! He will lead you into His truth and enable you to walk it out in your life.

TESTIMONY TIME

My Testimony: By Michelle Foster

When I was a Child, I always wanted to be SOMEONE. I always wanted to be Popular. Stuttering, being Shy and having a Tooth gone didnít cause me to attain those things. I always had a Low Self Esteem. I was always worried about what others thought of me. I just knew they didnít like me and was talking bad about me.

In the 7th, 8th grade I *Thought* the Kids who Partied were SOMEONE I wanted to be. I Wanted to *Fit In*

I grew up in Church, although our home was not the typical Christian Home. About a year or two before my Parents divorced we quit going to Church. (I feel that Church is very important especially during the Teen years. I needed that Godly Influence). I always felt as a Teen that something was missing in my life but I didnít know what. So I just kept doing what I did know and had Fun. (or I thought it was fun).

When I was a Junior, I had a Social PhobiaÖ I could not be out in Public without being Drunk. When I was a Senior, anytime I went to school, I was Drunk and I talked freely to everyone who intimated me otherwise. And I eventually came to think and said that Drinking was the REAL me.

In February 1977 Brian popped into my life. Yeah we were different. He was a Goody Two Shoes, Short Hair and a Christian. What on earth could he of seen in me. A Foul Mouth Drunk? He was SO different from everyone else I knew. And that interested me. What a Gentleman! I had never been out on a REAL Date till I met him. He was worth a Try.

We eventually started going to the Church that he had gone to when he lived in Town. Every week that we went, the Message the Pastor was sharing seemed to be directed at me. On October 3, 1978 I accepted the Lord Jesus into my HeartÖ. I didnít change over night.. It took about 2 years to really grasp hold of all this and Choose to stop Drinking and Cussing and just to attempt to live a Christ Centered LifeÖ and even still now 27 years later I continue to Mature and Grow Spiritually.

In 1979 after I was married, I struggle on how to make Friends. I didnít know how. All those Teen years I met the people I knew through Partying. But if I didnít Party anymore How did I meet people? I felt alone in that ApartmentÖ Then we got Plugged into a Church and I realized that I was never alone, that Jesus had been there all along. Itís been a process through the years of developing Friendships, but I knew I am never alone. Jesus is always with me.

In the Summer of 1980, I was Baptized and I quit Cussing in one months time! I would place Huge Signs around the Apartment and every time I slipped up I would stop and repent. 15 years worth of a Cussing Habit. Gone forever in one month! Things are Possible with Jesus.

It reminds me of my Favorite Verse- ďI can do ALL things through Christ Jesus who strengthens meĒ Philippians 4:13.

I think on that verse Often, when I need HIS Help.

Brian coming into my Life was a Divine Appointment. I Know that God used him to reach me.

Having the Lord in my Life has been the Most Greatest thing to ever happen to me. HE has made a difference. I am not the same Teen I once was. My Life has been Enriched.

CHALLENGE OF THE MONTH

We really should be getting into Godís word, as much as we possibly can. We would like to encourage you with a challenge each month, to memorize a portion of Scripture. So, we will provide a passage, and hope that you will take the time to study it daily. If you are already doing this on your own, that is great--we just thought with prayer, and making it a bit easier for some folks, that we could help those who may not be doing this yet. All passages will be from the King James Version of the Bible. We do not mind other versions, and you can study it in whichever version you like. We have chosen KJV, because it is public domain. We pray that you will hide His word in your heart.

1 John 5: 20
And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

QUICK TIP OF THE MONTH
Submitted by: Denise Imbody

A special Thank you to my dear friend Jennifer Dempsey, who told me about this tip! ‹

Earrings are fun pieces of jewelry to wear, and can really dress up an outfit. Sometimes, though, depending on the earrings, they can make the ear lobes irritated and itchy. My friend Jennifer told us how to eliminate this problem. Just take some clear nail polish and brush it on the posts of the earrings. We tried this method, and it was incredible how it works. You might have to repeat this process every so often, depending how often you wear the earrings, but it is NOT something you have to do every time, just once in a while...give it a try!

CRAFT OF THE MONTH
Submitted by: Barbara Lea Campbell

Magnetic Paper Holder

School is starting back and that means papers and artwork. When my daughter was very young, she made a special magnet holder for any papers or artwork she brought home.

Take a regular spring-loaded clothes pin, decorate with a wooden cut out. You can buy these at a craft store in many shapes -- pick one you like and paint it. If you want, add the student's name. OR you can create your own shape out of heavy weight paper or cardboard. Again, paint and decorate as you wish. Glue this to one side of the clothes pin.. leaving the part that opens and closes (holds the clothes) pointing down. On the back of the paper clip, glue a magnet. Pop on the fridge and you now have a special holder for that masterpiece or important note from school.

***If you have an original recipe, quick tip, or craft, that you would like to share with us, please send it in with your first and last name, and your email address to Precious_Stones@JEMMinistries.org. SKIPPING STONES
(A word of encouragement)
By: Denise Imbody

Well, this month we are focusing on AUTHENTIC. Unfortunately the word "AUTHENTIC" is NOT actually in the Bible, so I looked up the synonyms for AUTHENTIC and here is what I found...

bona fide, genuine, real, true, undoubted, unquestionable

...aren't those terrific words?!

Are you AUTHENTIC? Bona fide? Genuine? True? Undoubted? Unquestionable? Those are hard questions to answer. I venture to say, that as human beings with LOTS of faults that we are incapable of being any of these ALL the time. I know Someone who is ALL of these things ALL of the time though...and He is so much more than "just AUTHENTIC, BONA FIDE, TRUE, UNDOUBTED, and UNQUESTIONABLE"...and He is ALL any of us ever "NEED"! I am sure you know that I am speaking of the ONE TRUE GOD! He's our Father, Brother, Savior, Friend, Comforter, and I can just go on and on and on, with ALL that He is to us!

As we draw closer to Him, we can learn how we can become more AUTHENTIC. I know that more often than not, that any one of my friends can know if I am upset at any given time. I just can't seem to put on that facade and "pretend" nothing is wrong. Now, I am NOT saying that I've captured the essence of being AUTHENTIC all of the time, because I know there are times, when I have been upset, and no one really knows about it. I'm just trying to encourage you to draw closer to the Lord, so His AUTHENTICITY can shine through you!

BIBLE QUIZ

In this section, you will find five questions each month. Scripture references will sometimes be provided, but other times you will have to seek out the answers. We pray this will help you to get to know God's Word more.

This month we are talking about AUTHENTIC--THE TRUTH of God--so here are a few questions on that topic for you.

1. In 1 Kings 17:24 it says...Then the woman said to Elijah, "Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the LORD from your mouth is the truth."...where was she from?

2. What is the Bible reference for this passage of Scripture?
Show me your ways, O LORD,
teach me your paths;
guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.

3. In Matthew 21 who was Jesus speaking to when He said...
"I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him."

4. In Ephesians 6, what part of the Armor of God has the word "TRUTH" in it?

5. In Hebrews 5 the writer says that his hearers are slow to learn, and need to learn what, before moving on to solid food?

Movie of the Month: The Christmas Child
Recommended by: Barbara Lea Campbell

You may not think it's the time of year for a Christmas movie, but trust me -- The Christmas Child is an anytime of the year movie. Based on a Max Lucado story, The Christmas Child stars Steven Curtis Chapman, William "Billy" Moses and Megan Fellows. This is a story about knowing whose we are. Jack Davenport (played by Moses) is a journalist from Chicago searching for answers... he longs to know why he was given up for adoption.. who he belongs to. After the death of his adoptive parents, Jack stumbles across a photograph with his birthdate written on the back... and so his journey begins. Despite a marriage in crisis and business deadlines, Jack heads to rural Texas in search of himself.. and along the way he finds the one he needs most - Jesus. This is a decent, clean and well done movie -- a rarity these days. One the entire family can watch and enjoy. So forget that it is summertime and the heat is on, pile up on the couch and enjoy a touch of Christmas with The Christmas Child.
