(Issue #38 -- Jesus, Lover of My Soul -- February 2006)

Wow! This is actually the 38th edition of JEM Precious Stones! That's really amazing to me because I have lived on this earth 38 years. It seems like such a long time - and so many Precious Stones!

In a few days, however, I will be moving on to 39 - and that's what JEM's E-Zine will do as well! We're moving on to 39 and beyond! Thank You, Lord, for the ability to get these first 38 e-zines out. Thank You, Lord, for Your blessing and Your indwelling to continue from 39 and beyond!

I pray that these E-zines are a blessing to you! May The Lord, Jesus, The Lover of our Souls , continue to strengthen you, keep you, bless and inspire you both through JEM Ministries and through His working in your life!

In His Service,

Father God, we thank You for our
Everlasting life and Your cleansing
Blood and we ask that You
Receive us into Your bosom with
Undying love and help us to
Allow Your love to show
Reuniting all Your saved ones through
Your peace, grace and love.

Happy Birthday to all our brothers and sisters in Christ born in the month of February. May the Lord's love encourage and strengthen you as you walk with Him daily allowing His love to flow through you to all those you meet.

"This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." 1 John 4:9 - 10 NIV

Isn't it wonderful to know with certainty that God loves you? It makes us feel all warm and fuzzy and special. And that is a good thing... but guess what, God loves your friends too.. and your neighbors.. and the guy that stole your parking place at WalMart.. and the rude cashier at the grocery... Remember.. John 3:16 says God so loved the WORLD... that is everyone.

So what does that have to do with you? Well... God loves those people, but they might not know it and they need to. God's love is a love meant to be shared. It will never run out.. there is enough to go around.

So I challenge you today to love others.. to show them God's love pouring through you and onto them. Smile when you want to frown... be quiet when you want to snap back.. reach out and help someone.. there are opportunities all around you to love others. If you can't see them, then ask the Lord to show you who He wants you to love for Him today. Funny thing is.. the more you share God's love, the more you feel it!

"Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another." 1 John 4:11 NIV

By: Barbara Lea Campbell

Did you know that God's Word is more than ink on paper... more than a bunch of nouns, verbs, adjectives and such. Hebrews 4:12 tells us that God's Word is alive and active!... and guess what... It can be alive and active in you!

We are to walk out the Word each day... be a living testimony to the Lord by walking the walk. So what does that mean? how do we do that?

That is what this new section of Precious Stones is about.... looking at Scripture and sharing ways to live it... to walk it out. Some of the exhortations and commands found in the Word seem difficult if not impossible, but the ability to follow through is found in the Word also. God never calls us to do something undoable. The key is to do it in His strength not our own.

Phil. 4:13 says "I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me." We will be looking at some of those "All Things: in the months ahead and seeing how Christ strengthens us to do them.

JESUS, LOVER OF MY SOUL is one of my favorite praise and worship songs. Take a look at a few of the words...

I love You
I need You
Though my world may fall
You’ll never let me go

My Savior
My closest Friend
I will worship You until the very end

...aren’t those just some of the most beautiful words you have ever read?

For those who are married, you know that there is no one in the world you will ever be closer to than your spouse. As true as that is, it is also true that Jesus is “the closest” Friend you will ever have.

There is another song titled LOVER OF MY SOUL some of those words are...

You give me strength
You give me faith
To fully believe
That the Maker of this whole wide world
Is a Father to me

...simply overwhelming, and profound. Every time I sing along with this song, and get to that part, I get chills.. .those Holy Ghost chills.

I remember when Matt and I were going steady, all we wanted to do was spend time with each other.. .you just “have to” be with the one you love.

Well, I was thinking.. .shouldn’t we feel that same way about Jesus? Shouldn’t we “want to” spend time with Him? I know He wants us to want to spend time with Him, because He wants to spend time with us.

Another thought is this.. .when you do spend time with your spouse or a close friend, you have a conversation.. .which means that each of you takes turns talking. Let me ask how many of us spend time in our prayer closet praying, and praying our little hearts out to the Lord, and do not take the time to just sit and listen?

Yes, You heard me correctly.. .Jesus wants us to sit and just be still some times.. .and He will talk to us.. .if we take the time to do that.

May we all take the time to want to spend time with the Lord, and listen as well as just present our requests.

Happiness is a perfume which you cannot pour on someone without getting some on yourself.

My Testimony: By Tamijoy Sisemore

I was born July 2, 1968. I grew up with both my parents and a brother in the home. I was around other family off and on alot. I was severely abused by my dad, uncle, brother to name a few. I grew up basically petrified of men. I did not date. I cut myself very deep ugly cuts for years and years. I have been in and out of psychiatric units on and off for years. Just hated me and hated life and felt very alone and unloved and uncared for.

God sent pastor Leesa and Cassie into my life and they began counseling me twice a week. This counseling went on for years. God began a work in me through these 2 faithful women. Shortly after we began counseling I received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and life really began to change for me then.

My life today is a total miracle compared to the depressed cutting crying mess I was before. As I said I did NOT date. I had my daughter at age 19 but had not dated. I did not go on 1 date the whole time she has been growing up until December 5, 2004. A lady in our Church brought her uncle to Church to meet me! I went on my first date the next night, December 6, 2004.

I WAS floored that men like Bobby existed. I could not believe the way he treated me or how understanding he was. I refused to ride with him alone or go anywhere with him alone. On our first date there were like 10 people. By the middle of December Bobby had asked me to marry him one night. I told him I could not answer, we both had different churches and I had to know what GOD wanted. I mean I am a children's pastor now, that has to come first. I was so fearful that Bobby in my life was a tool of the enemy to distract me from ministry.

God began moving mightily in Bobby's life and drew Bobby closer to him and called him to help me in ministry. Bobby left his Church and covenanted with mine. On New Year's Eve 2004, in front of the whole Church, Bobby asked me to marry him! I SAID YES! which to this day still floors me. Bobby asked me to marry him before I had ever allowed him to kiss me. This man was loving, patient, kind, Godly! Wow, and he wanted to be with me?? still dont get it.

This began a whirlwind of activity and wedding preparations. That man gave me the wedding of my dreams. We were married on April 23, 2005! :) We had like 8 attendants each! It was gorgeous :)

I will never be able to thank the Lord enough for healing me and bringing me to a place where I am capable of being married. Also my 2 friends Pastor Leesa and Cassie. IF they had not been faithful to God in helping me even when it was hard and scary and yucky, if they had not bandaged horrid cuts and made time to take care of me and showed that they cared enough to doctor me up, if they had not loved me when I was unlovable because God told them too, then I would NOT be sitting here married for 9 months :)

I have never known happiness and joy like I do now. He has NEVER yelled at me, never hit me, never hurt me in bad ways, nothing. I have someone to share things with now. I know I was so horribly lonely before but I didn't even begin to realize what I was missing.

Bobby and I are now trying to have a baby and also going through classes to be certified to foster and adopt! God is so good. He may give me the opportunity to love on a baby or toddler who has been abused as I was, who feels unlovable!

If you take away nothing else from this testimony, I pray you will take these few things, that GOD is a HEALER! ALL things are possible with HIM. And if you feel God leading you to help someone, pray for them, be their friend, be a counselor to them when you have no training, be faithful to say YES LORD and do it, Just step out in faith and walk with HIM and allow His Holy Spirit to guide you and no matter how hopeless that person may seem, NEVER give up on them, because GOD can do anything!

We really should be getting into God’s word, as much as we possibly can. We would like to encourage you with a challenge each month, to memorize a portion of Scripture. So, we will provide a passage, and hope that you will take the time to study it daily. If you are already doing this on your own, that is great--we just thought with prayer, and making it a bit easier for some folks, that we could help those who may not be doing this yet. All passages will be from the King James Version of the Bible. We do not mind other versions, and you can study it in whichever version you like. We have chosen KJV, because it is public domain. We pray that you will hide His word in your heart.

Matthew 22
37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38This is the first and great commandment.

2 Tbsp water
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/3 c. all-purpose flour
3/4 c. baking cocoa
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. chopped nuts (optional).. pecans or walnuts work well

1. Preheat oven to 350-degrees F
2. Grease (spray with PAM) a 13 x 9x2 baking pan
3. Combine sugar, butter and water in a large bowl. Stir in eggs and vanilla.
4. Combine flour, cocoa, and baking powder in another bowl. Once mixed, stir into the sugar mixture. Add nuts if wanted.
5. Spread into prepared baking pan. Bake for 15 - 18 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the middle comes out slightly sticky. Cool completely.

Fun Option for Valentine's Day:
Use a heart shape cookie cutter to cut out heart shaped brownies.

Other Fun Options:
You can sprinkle powdered sugar on these or frost, if you like.
Once cooled, cut into bars.

We often double this recipe and bake in a large jelly roll pan.

SIDE NOTE FROM Denise: These Brownies are VERY delicious, but I wanted you to know that we had to bake them for 25 minutes...just wanted you to know...just in case you might have to watch them, and test to see when they are done

Clean faster by clustering your activities. Do as many tasks as you can in 1 place before you move on to the next. For example, clean your bathroom mirror, wipe down the vanity under it, wipe off items on the vanity before moving on to the toilet and tub area. Same with other rooms.... dust around couches and end tables before moving to book shelves. Try cleaning in clusters.... you just might find it makes cleaning go faster for you!

Here is a fun idea to tell someone that you love them.... create a calendar entitled "Things I love about you."

There are several ways to do this. You can use post it notes and stick them together to create a daily calendar where you pull one off each day. Or you can use index cards, hole punch them and tie together with ribbon to create a flip chart type calendar. In fact, you can purchase index cards with a spiral at the top that stands like a small calendar. You can even take an existing calendar.. the kind that shows a month at a time.. and write in each square.

Write on each post it or index card or in each square... or whatever you use, things you love about the recipient. Be creative.. be serious and funny... have a good time with this. "I love your infectious laugh... I love your bear hugs... I love the strength of your character... I love that you take out the trash.... " You get the idea!

What an easy and fun way to say "I Love You" each and every day!

(A word of encouragement)
By: Barbara Lea Campbell

"Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so...."

Most of us grew up singing those words... simple and basic and true. We tend to believe them when we are a child, but somewhere along the way doubt enters in and we wonder if it is true... does Jesus really love me? or maybe we even think He can't love me! But He does!

In John 15:13 Jesus says "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." That is exactly what Jesus did for each one of us.. He laid down His life for us. "He humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!" Phil. 2:8

You never have to doubt His love. The Word assures up of it over and over and over.

from John 13:34 "As I have loved you".... John 15:9 "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love".... John 15:12 "I have loved you".... Eph. 2:4 "because of his great love for us".... Eph. 3:18 "grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ"... Rom. 8:37 "we are more than conquerors through him who loved us".... Gal. 2:20 "the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me"....

These are but a few of the "love" Scriptures. If you find yourself feeling unloved, open the Word and search for it.... true love is there from Genesis to Revelation.

"May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word" 2 Thess. 2:16 & 17

"Oh how He loves you and me.... oh how He loves you and me... He gave His life.. what more could He give.. oh how He loves you... oh how He loves me... oh how He loves you and me."

In this section, you will find five questions each month. Scripture references will sometimes be provided, but other times you will have to seek out the answers. We pray this will help you to get to know God's Word more.

Answers can be found in 1 Samuel 1--except for the last question, and that Bible reference is provided for you, too.

1. What was the name of Hannah's husband?

2. Where was her husband from?

3. Even though he loved Hannah more, he had another wife, what was her name?

4. Hannah's husband's other wife would provoke her to irritate her until she was so upset that she would weep and she couldn't eat...what was the reason her rival did this?

5. How many more children did Hannah have after Samuel? (1 Samuel 2:18-21)

CD of the Month: Bethany Dillon
Recommended by: Kristina

Bethany Dillon by Bethany Dillon

When I first heard of Bethany Dillon a few years ago, I was intrigued by the news of a bright new talent, a girl with an amazing gift for writing and singing. It wasn't long before I started hearing her single Beautiful on every Christian radio station, and it was surprising to know that this girl with such deep, meaningful lyrics was still the young age of fifteen.

I was really looking forward to more of her work, and her self-titled album did not disappoint. The first song on her CD, Revolutionaries, has become an anthem for many young Christians. The words encourage fellow believers to step onto the path God is leading them, and not just necessarily follow the 'tracks in the dirt' of those who have come before them. It's a song about dreaming, about hope, a message that is woven throughout this album.

The next three songs - Great Big Mystery, Beautiful, and Move Forward - are songs about human failure and doubt, and about God's love and guidance throughout it all. "For My Love" follows, and is a song about true love with lyrics that moves the heart and brings a smile to your face:

Gaze into my eyes
Let me know you’d fight
Thousands, for my love

All I Need sings about only needing God's love and grace in life, and Aimless is a haunting ballad about knowing that this place is not our home. Bethany does an excellent job on the remake of Amy Grant's famous song Lead Me On, and Exodus sings like a Psalm from the point of view of the Israelites escaping from Egypt. The album closes with two beautiful and inspiring songs; on Why Bethany sings about a Love that will never leave us, no matter how much we try to hide from Him, and A Voice Calling Out leaves the listener with a hope for the future.

I highly recommend Bethany Dillon's self-titled CD to every fan of music, but particularly for teen girls and young women. After listening to this album dozens of times, I am always left with the word hope. And I believe that this is a great message for young women growing up in this world today.

Book of the Month: Daughter of the Loom
Recommended by: Barbara Lea Campbell

Daughter of the Loom by Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller is book 1 in the Bells of Lowell series. Set in Massachusetts in 1828, this book looks at the birth of Industrialization in America and the effect it had on the people. In Daughter of the Loom, Lilly Armbruster has lost everything.. her family farm, her parents and her fiance... and she blames the Mills. She sets out with a plan to exact revenge ignoring the nagging convictions that loom in her heart. This book doesn't paint a fairy tale picture of Mill life. Peterson and Miller expose the good and the bad in people and in our country's history at this time. I confess this book was difficult to get into, but once the stage was set the story began to roll and I couldn't put it down. I look forward to reading the next 2 books in the series.

Movie of the Month: The Love Comes Softly Series
Recommended by: Kimberly Lewis

Love Comes Softly

The movie, Love Comes Softly is based on the popular book series by the same name written by Janette Oke. We find a young frontier couple on their way west to find a new life and start a family. Tragedy strikes young Marty when her husband is killed just as they find their homestead. As winter approaches, Marty, who is all alone and pregnant decides the best thing for her is to marry a stranger who is a widower and father (Clark) of a young daughter. Clark promises Marty safety and a home in exchange for taking care of his daughter and teaching her more “girlish” things. As winter passes, Marty and Clark find themselves falling in love but not expressing it to each other. When Spring arrives and it's time for Marty to leave for her extended family back east, Clark lets her go without knowing her true feelings. After finding a letter, he races to reclaim his wife and his love. Names and stories were changed a bit from the original book, but this movie is a refreshing change to the violence and hatred often seen on television these days. God and positive religious overtones are prominent throughout the movie. Directed by Michael Landon Jr, this movie is well worth watching.

Love's Enduring Promise

The story of Marty and Clark Davis continues in part two of the Love Comes Softly series. We pick up with Missy's story in this movie. She is now a teacher and trying to find her way. After Clark is injured in a wood cutting accident, the family must pull together to save the farm. A shy young man mysteriously appears to help the family. Missy is drawn to this man, but also to another more prominent man. A sort of love-triangle forms until Missy finds her heart's desire and marries the man of her choice. This movie departs from the original book in several areas, however, the movie is delightful and portrays a wholesome God honoring spirit throughout. The movie was directed by Michael Landon Jr. and is based on the book Love's Enduring Promise written by Janette Oke.

Love's Long Journey

Missy and Willie's journey continues in Love's Long Journey. Again based on the book Love's Long Journey by Janette Oke, we find Missy and Willie heading even further west to start their lives as cattle ranchers. Several incidents happen along the way from encountering Indians for the first time, to being robbed at gunpoint. New friends are made and relationships are formed. Throughout the entire story, God's love and promises are at the forefront. Of the three movies made so far, this one strays the most from it's original book form, however, it was enjoyable and entertaining. You will find yourself cheering on the characters in this story. As with the first two, this movie was directed by Michael Landon, Jr.
