(Issue #42 -- You Are Holy (Prince of Peace) -- June 2006)

Have you ever just taken some time to think about God’s Holiness? Do you realize that He is so far beyond what any of us can achieve – and beyond anything we could possibly deserve. His Holiness could be our end – He would be justified in wiping us all off the face of the earth because of our sin – but, because of His love, He made a way to redeem us rather than destroy us! His sacrifice paid our debt – His holiness became our salvation instead of our destruction. His peace can replace our fear and frustration! You Are Holy, Lord, and have become my Prince of Peace! Thank You, Jesus! What a mighty God we serve!

We’ll never really understand it all – at least not on this side of heaven -- but join us for a bit as we dive a little deeper into His Holiness and His Peace...

In His Service,

By: Joy Taylor

Just thinking about your love for me
Unleashes an emotion that can
Not be shaken or moved and I pray that
Everyone will find their way to you.

Do you have an opinion or thought that you'd like to share with JEM-Precious Stones readers? Well, here is your chance...if you'd just like to comment on the E-zine or if you have something on your mind about current events that you'd like to long as they are clean and family oriented and NOT against God and His Word...please feel free to share them with us, and we'll use them if we can.

We have close to, or maybe it is over 200 readers, and we are so thankful for each and every one of you, but I'd like to hear from more of you on how you like the E-zine, or if you think there needs to be changes, or even if it is just to say "HEY!" is always VERY encouraging to hear how Precious Stones might have helped encourage you in some way, if it has, and so on like that.

We are instructed by the Lord's Word to encourage one another. Here are some Bible Verses that mention encouraging one another...

1 Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Hebrews 3:13
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness.

Ephesians 5:19-20
Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Colossians 3:15-17
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. we are to encourage, uplift, and say a nice word to one another.

As much as we LOVE doing this monthly E-zine, some months it can be EXTREMELY hard to get together.

We would love more input, contributions, and all of that, so we can make Precious Stones the best it can be for our Heavenly Father.

I do not say all this to make anyone feel guilty or badly in anyway. I just felt lead to write and ask that more folks let us know how they are liking the E-zine, and to encourage you to be more involved. We have several sections that ask for folks to submit please pray, seek God's face, and hey....maybe even drop us a note and let us know what you are thinking.

May the Lord bless and keep each and everyone of you!

A blessed birthday to all those born in June! May you feel the Lord's presence in your life each day and see His handiwork all around you. May your hunger and thirst for the things of God grow daily as you seek to know Him more.

Just wondered if anyone noticed that each months issue of Precious Stones this year is either a hymn or praise and worship song title? It's been sometimes fun coming together and creating a theme around a song, and other months it's been as equally hard. This month is one of those harder months, but the title of the praise and worship song we have chosen is an awesome one--anyone heard of it? If anyone has said no to hearing it, then please contact Matt or I, and we will play it on our internet radio show that we do on Friday'll have to let us know when you are listening of course. :)

Michael W. Smith has done it again. We all know what a talented song writer and singer he is, and this song is just one more proof in the pudding so to speak...

The first part is an echo, and the second part it just incredible to hear and sing to, if you know the the second part the guys sing one part, and the girls sing another, at the same time, and it just blends so beautifully together that there is just so much inspiration when you are singing or even if you are just listening...and if you mean those words you are singing, or listening to, it is even better!

Anyway, we normally do NOT like to quote a whole song, but once in a while, we do it, because the lyrics in and of themselves are the best, and there is just not really much more to say about it. This is one of those songs, so I am going to post the lyrics to it right you go...

These lyrics were taken from:

By: Kristina

But I don't need to write to you about the Christian love that should be shown among God's people. For God himself has taught you to love one another. - 1 Thessalonians 4:9

I am always amazed by how many churches there are in my town. Dozens and dozens in such a small place; large and small buildings, cathedrals and alley entrances, stained glass windows and broken glass doors. There are Protestants and Catholics, Lutherans and Baptists, Methodists and Anabaptists and Eastern Orthodox. Some believe in modern clothes, others in conservative dress. Some have rock music, others have traditional hymns. There are different books and topics of doctrine, there are different views on life and heaven and hell.

And as I watch my brothers and sisters in Christ march through the different doors of different churches on Sunday morning I am tempted to believe that we are all indeed different, not one and the same. But as I glance through Scripture, I realize that I have forgotten one very important thing that binds us: love.

"...So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples." - John 13:34-35

How easy it is to believe that we are different, that we don't belong to each other. But Christ clearly commands us to love one another, that by our love the world will know that we are His disciples. It is nice to know that through all of our differences, the one thing that we do have in common, our love for and belief in Jesus Christ, is what will shine through to the world. Not our different music and dress, nor our different names and number of believers, but rather Jesus Himself.

Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble. - 1 John 2:10

At this time in history when we are separated by our differences, let us remember the love of God, and brotherly love. So many believers feel alone in this world, when in reality they are surrounded by the fellowship of millions of others. Let us remember to reach out in love to those who share the same love for the Lord, as we are commanded to do in Scripture. Let actions from the heart come from reading His Word.

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is born of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God--for God is love. - 1 John 4:7-8

But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." 1 Peter 1:15-16

This verse has always bothered be a bit. I know that God is holy and I understand that He has called us to be holy.. but wow! That is a tall order. Holy is more than just being set apart or different... more than doing the right thing... being a "good" person.

Webster's 1828 Dictionary gives this as its main definition of holy:

Properly, whole, entire or perfect, in a moral sense. Hence, pure in heart, temper or dispositions; free from sin and sinful affections. Applied to the Supreme Being, holy signifies perfectly pure, immaculate and complete in moral character; and man is more or less holy, as his heart is more or less sanctified, or purified from evil dispositions. We call a man holy, when his heart is conformed in some degree to the image of God, and his life is regulated by the divine precepts. Hence, holy is used as nearly synonymous with good, pious, godly

Wow! God has called us to be all of that? How on earth can we? The answer is we can't... but He can. God is all those things... He is Holy... in fact, He is the only truly holy being there is. And it is His will.. His desire... that we live a life modeled after Him. Remember, we are being conformed daily into the image of Christ and Christ told us that He and the Father are one.

So what do we do? How do we put feet to this? How do we become holy?

Well... I think the Bible gives us the answer in several places. First, we have to die to self each day... totally surrender our entire life to Christ daily....

If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. Luke 9:23

Next, we much choose to walk in the Spirit not in the flesh. It is a choice. Pray and ask the Lord to help you to do this. It is not an easy task, but like all things it can be done through Christ who will give you strength (Phil. 4:13).

live by the Spirit Gal. 5:15

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Gal. 5:24-25

And last remember what God wants from you. He isn't looking for a big show... a huge act... He wants You...

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Romans 12:1

And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

be holy, because I am holy Lev. 11:45

"Our peace and confidence are to be found not in our empirical holiness, not in our progress toward perfection, but in the alien righteousness of Jesus Christ that covers our sinfulness and alone makes us acceptable before a holy God."
--Donald Bloesch

My Testimony: By Jan Dobens

I lost my job on April 7, 2006. That very day I applied for social security for people with disabilities. At that time they told me it would take up to 120 days to receive the check. You know what? I had no worries. I knew my Father would take care of me. I never had a doubt. Here are some ways he has supplied my needs.

I had a couple of frozen dinners left and Rose, a friend, showed up with a meal for me not knowing how much food I had. When Rose and I were talking, I told her I had to get some coffee and I had to recycle some grounds that morning. I did it with the joy of the Lord in my heart, knowing He would take care of me. Rose said she had two pounds of coffee at home that was already ground and she did not want it because she likes to grind it herself and she went and got it for me.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to call my boss and ask if I could still participate in their walk-a-thon even though I did not work there anymore. It was very humbling but I knew God put it on my heart for some reason. When the walk was over, they had some food left and picked door prize tickets to see who got to take home trays of food. My number was picked for a large tray of fruit. They also had some bagels to give me.

Last Sunday, Shirley, and her daughter invited me out for lunch, they paid my way and then Lisa's daughter, Jennifer, had a half of pizza left over she did not want to take home. They asked me if I wanted it and I had it for two meals.

I have gone to about four different cookouts. My sister sent me some money and I have been able to pay a few bills just to keep my head above water and I know Jesus is going to take care of it!

My church gave me a whole lot of groceries, so much that I will be able to eat for a few weeks. They also gave me some money that has made it possible to pay for medicine and physical therapy I need for my back. I never doubted how God would take care of me. I am in awe because of it. My Father loves me so much and I know it without a shadow of a doubt no matter what is going on around me! I thank Him for the trial I go through. I love Him with my whole heart!

We really should be getting into God’s word, as much as we possibly can. We would like to encourage you with a challenge each month, to memorize a portion of Scripture. So, we will provide a passage, and hope that you will take the time to study it daily. If you are already doing this on your own, that is great--we just thought with prayer, and making it a bit easier for some folks, that we could help those who may not be doing this yet. All passages will be from the King James Version of the Bible. We do not mind other versions, and you can study it in whichever version you like. We have chosen KJV, because it is public domain. We pray that you will hide His word in your heart.

Isaiah 6
1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the LORD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

When you want to test to see if the inside of a cake is done, you can sub in a strand of dry (uncooked) spaghetti, if you don't have any toothpicks on hand. It works well.

Materials Needed
Yellow Foam sheets
Magnetic Tape

Instructions (You might want to do this all ahead of time if working with younger children.)
1. Draw a sun with rays all around it
2. Draw a face on it...leaving some room at the bottom to write the words FUN IN THE SON!
3. Cut it out.
4. Cut pieces of magnet off the magnetic tape to fit the backs of the suns.
5. Peel off the back of the magnet and place on back of the sun.

There you have it, a little magnet to remind you that we can have fun with Jesus during these hot summer months! Ü

Prince of Peace

Sometimes it's hard to be peaceful when life is busting down your door to get to you. When the commitments you have made get marked "past due" all at once, or when little annoyances loom like monsters, threatening your joy – sometimes it's easier to complain, whine, and become angry or afraid...

Psalms 85:
7. Show us your unfailing love, O LORD, and grant us your salvation.
8. I will listen to what God the LORD will say; he promises peace to his people, his saints-- but let them not return to folly.

John 14:
27. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

What does The Word say? What is the folly we are returning to when we fail to let His peace rest upon situations in our lives? Why do we let our hearts be troubled when Jesus is our Lord? Why do we choose to be afraid – when Christ has utterly destroyed all we have to fear?

The next time life gets a little too hot to handle, take a few moments to think about who God is, and who you are in Him! Repeat the words that the psalmist wrote: "...he promises peace to his people, his saints..." Repeat the words Jesus spoke. Let them sink into your spirit, into your very being... "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you... ...Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." Let His peace rest upon you – and let all your trials, frustrations, and annoyances go – into His capable hands!

In this section, you will find five questions each month. Scripture references will sometimes be provided, but other times you will have to seek out the answers. We pray this will help you to get to know God's Word more.

I thought it would be kind of different and yet cool to base this months questions on our challenge for this here you go...

1. What is the Bible reference for this month's challenge?

2. Who died in the year that Isaiah had this vision?

3. What did Isaiah see concerning the Lord in his vision?

4. What stood above the vision he saw of the Lord?

5. What did they cry out to each other?

CD of the Month: Wide-Eyed and Mystified
Recommended by: Kristina

Wide-Eyed and Mystified by Downhere

It has been almost three long years since the amazingly talented band, Downhere, released their last album. But thankfully, this summer has brought us their third, and possibly best, release so far. Wide-Eyed and Mystified continues the band's mission to spread the Christian message, as well as trying to wake up those who profess faith in Christ. Downhere surprised me by changing their sound once again, much as they did between their self-titled debut album and their sophomore record, So Much For Substitutes. Their first release was a ballad driven worship record, where as Substitutes was a true rock album. Wide-Eyed and Mystified is a perfect combining of these two, a few rock songs, a few ballads, and always keeping with their message: love God, and love your neighbor.

Downhere is unique in that they have two co-lead vocalists, both of whom sound excellent on Wide-Eyed. This band seems to have found their place in the Christian music world and are quite comfortable doing what they are called to do. And many of their new songs reflect this feeling, as they call Christians to stand up together and rise as one. Some of the songs here are so diverse musically and lyrically that no doubt every person will have the ones they prefer above the rest. For me, a few caught my attention from the first listen.

"Remember Me", a beautiful song with powerful lyrics, was inspired by how forgetful we are as human beings, and how God provided us with a way to remember Christ's sacrifice:

Remember Me, remember Me
Every time you drink, and every time you eat
With every word you speak, and every breath you breathe
Remember Me, remember Me.

And talking about the song "Stir", co-lead vocalist Marc Martel says, ""Stir" is a statement of identity. Understanding who we are helps us understand our calling and our purpose. We are a people for the people. We are salt and light in the world. We are the open arms of God—the very evidence that He is here with the power to turn any life into something beautiful. And just like many are better than one to move a fridge or win a game of baseball, how much more is that true when the Church moves as one to do God's work!"

We’ve got life to give,
So why don’t we do what we we’re saved for
Come along, why don’t we stir?
You know you and I could do so much more together
We are the new at heart, so why don’t we stir?

I highly recommend this album to anyone eager for a new sound to encourage you as a believer this summer. Downhere has already made their mark in the Christian music world, and we can expect only great things in the future for this highly talented quartet.

Book of the Month: The Peacemaker
Recommended by: Barbara Lea Campbell

The Peacemaker by Lori Copeland

The Peacemaker is Book 1 in Lori's Men of the Saddle series. There are 4 books total... The Peacemaker, The Drifter, The Maverick and The Plainsman. You can read a bit about each at Lori's Site:

The Peacemaker is set in 1865. Cole and his brother, Beau, are headed home to Missouri after 4 years of fighting for the Union. Along the way they encounter Miss Wynne Elliott, a feisty southern bell with a score to settle. Wynne was jilted.. left at the altar.. and her money taken by a charming swindler. Imagine her surprise when she learns it is Cole and Beau's brother. Wynne has vowed to kill him on site and Cole is determined to make sure she doesn't. Of course, it appears she will harm herself more than anyone else. Wynne is use to anything but traveling the land and fending for herself. Over time the two become friends and God heals the hurts in Wynne's heart.

One neat thing I read in the Author's notes. The basis for this story and the next 2 in the series are from secular romance novels she wrote years ago. She wanted to rewrite them with a Christian viewpoint and she did a great job! Faith, trust and obedience are key themes in The Peacemaker.
