JEM-PRECIOUS STONES
(Issue #34 -- ORDER -- October 2005)

Welcome to the October 2005 installment of JEM Precious Stones! October is a month that I, unfortunately, don't look forward to. In this month, God's order is disrupted, and evil becomes good, Fear becomes fun, and secrets and disguises become the norm. You all may not agree with me on this, but what we can agree upon is that many little ones will be in danger on October 31st. They may be hurt or even abused as they scamper from door to door looking for treats. Their precious hearts will learn to accept evil and all it touches. Join me in praying for their protection on that night. May God's hand be upon all those babes who innocently participate in this unordered ritual -- and may His order be what they ultimately, and intimately, come to long for! Amen!

In His Service,
Matt

BIRTHDAY GREETING

This month, may The Lord bless those of you celebrating birthdays! May the years that you have already counted bring a smile to your face, may the Year you are in be the best you have added, and may the many coming years tally up to a long, wonderful fulfilling life that will cause our Master to say, "Well Done!"

INSPIRATIONAL THOUGHT
By: Denise Imbody

Autumn is a
Beautiful time of the year, for all of
Creation just seems to
Declare how much
Emmanuel is with us in all His
Favor, Majesty, and
Glorious wonder.
His love for us
Is overwhelming, and the
Joy He gives us, to
Keep us going, when the day's been
Long and we can't seem to take one
More thing. He sustains us through the
Night, and helps us welcome the next day with
Open arms. If we start with
Prayer and memorize His word so we can
Quote it when we need to
Remember His promises to
Stand against the enemy and so we can
Tell others about our Savior's
Unfailing love, and His
Victory over death and the grave, so
We can live with Him forevermore.
X marks the spot, is as simple as how much
Yashua loves us, and how we will be with Him on Mount
Zion one day real soon!

POINTS TO PONDER
By: Barbara Lea Campbell

When looking for verses on order, I ran across the most interesting thing...

Job 25:2 in the NIV says "Dominion and awe belong to God; He established order in the heights of heaven."... but in the KJV it says :Dominion and fear are with Him, He maketh peace in His high places." Both are wonderful wordings.. and made me realize that order and peace go hand in hand.

In fact, when we were seeking a verse for our challenge this month, my first thought was one that says God is not the author of confusion, but of order... but when I looked it up I realized it was "For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints." 1 Cor. 14:33 KJV. The NIV of this verse says "God is not a god of disorder but of peace."

It is easy to see the link between order and peace. The opposite of order is disorder.. chaos.. something most of us try to avoid! We much prefer calm.. peace.

So when you read verses about peace, think of how that applies to God ordering

QUOTE OF THE MONTH

"All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

--Back to TABLE OF CONTENTS--

God is a god of order. Have you ever heard that? I know I have. And while that specific sentence is not in the Bible, the truth of it is evident in the Word. Just look at the creation story. Nothing there is random. God separated the waters into seas BEFORE He created fish. He created the sky BEFORE He created birds. The earth was complete BEFORE He placed man on it. I mean what would have happened if He had created the bird before the sky? Where would they have gone? Creation shows that God is a God of order.

Order doesn't just indicate a methodical arrangement, as seen in the creation. It also means the proper state. God is a god of order in that sense of the word also. He created the world to be a certain way. Man with his helpmeet, woman would be its caregivers together. God would walk with them in the Garden. He would provide all their needs. It would be paradise! Perfect!

But something happened... God's order was disrupted...

"Doubt and desire pursued her (Eve) until she not only plucked and ate the fruit but also shared it with her husband. Suddenly, darkness rushed upon Eden. It came, not from the outside but from the inside, erupting, filling their souls with shadows, cravings, and misery. Order gave way to disorder, harmony to discord, trust to fear." (from Women of the Bible: A One-Year Devotional Study of Women in Scripture by Ann Spangler and Jean E. Syswerda)

Can't you see it... hear it.. feel it... God's world of order was thrown into disorder by that one single act of disobedience. Things were never to be the same. Man would have to work for a living... women would be subject to the dominance of men... God would no longer walk in the Garden with His creation.

In spite of all this, we can have order in our life.. we can live in the proper state God intends for us.. walking with Him.. fellowshipping with Him. That is His desire. He is still a god or order. He will "order" (direct, lead) our life if we let Him. We just need to spend time with Him.. in His word.. and surrender our life to Him.. allowing Him to order our days.

Ps. 119:133 "Order my steps in Thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me."

TESTIMONY TIME

Tempted & Tried: My Testimony: By Jay Nagy

I pray it will bless you :)

I was born in 1964 on Feb. 20th in Warren Ohio. I was born mentally and physically retarded with spinal-befida. My spinal-befida was very mild and the doctors were able to close my spine up. They had to put a shunt in my lower back to help heal my spine. I also have Hydrocephalus or commonly known as "Water On The Brain" so there is a shunt in my head also. I did not start walking until I was almost 2 years old, when I was three I started to go to a nursery school for the mentally retarded handicap kids. I was healed of most of my retardation, what is left is the reason I am on disability today and for my seizure activity, basically I am just a slow person when it comes to my mind. I am very poor on making my own plans, some people call it laziness but in my case its different, and this paragraph may help make you better understand what I mean, so here it is:

An affected patient may seem very bright and sociable in casual conversation but may fall down disastrously when asked to execute a task that requires planning an ordered sequence of actions. Nonverbal learning disabilities are present at baseline in many well-treated patients, but they may be exacerbated by CSF shunt problems.

By the time I was 37 months old my Dad died from heart disease at only 37 years young. My mother told me I did not speak one word for a whole year after my dads death. My dad & I were very close she says. I kept a lot of pain in my heart over my dads death all my life but did not realize it until 2002 or about 2 years ago

When I turned 10yrs old, The doctors told my mom that I may die within 2 years if I can't live without a shunt. At that time I have had 22 surgeries. When I entered junior high school my life wasn't so easy any more since. I am the type of person who wants to do no harm to anyone. I love everyone I meet and have met friend or fo. During those 3 years at junior High, I had 3 surgeries Kids at school called me waterhead, waterbrain, Frankenstein, and some nasty 4 letter words.

When I started High school things got allot worse for me mentally. I started to believe that no one loved me or wanted to be friends with me etc, etc. One day I heard very scary voices and couldn't handle it. I believed these voices at the time told me to burn my house down to gain attention but I was too sick in the mind to be able to realize what I was doing wrong and didn't say anything to know one that I started the fire. With in 1 year I burned down 3 places we lived in. They gave me 10 days in jail but they suspended that cause there was no proof I was ever a violent kid & gave me medical Mental help and probation for 10 years. But I was relieved of all probation time at 18 do to me turning an adult.

I also got hooked on porn magazines then in my mid 20's I started to watch X-rated movies, At that time I have had about 52 surgeries. At 26 we moved down to Georgia and my life took a huge change for the better. For no reason at all I saw everything different about life then I did up north in Ohio. I am also living with the pain everyday of Rheumatoid Arthritis, half the time I can't sleep well because of it.

Starting on March 22nd maybe the 23rd of 2000 I went into a very deep dark depression that I will never forget. I was experiencing jittery, Anxiety, panic attacks, restless, frustration, fear, & sleeplessness for about 3 or 4 days. I was even shaken and it was really scary. It got to the point where I was determined to kill myself do to not being able to cope with all of the emotions anymore. At that same time in my life I had the internet & was a member of a talk program called "Firetalk" & there were Christian chat rooms on there and I all ready made allot of Christian friends. One morning I went on Firetalk and told everyone that I couldn't take it anymore and was going to kill myself to stop the hurting. Then I quickly went off line. About an hour later or so I went back on and one Christian lady that I have helped moderate a room before caught me coming online and quickly messaged me and asked if we could talk and I said yes. Well after I started to tell her what I was going through she stopped me and said just a minute, cause I think I'll need help from a pastor friend of mine.

I all ready new the pastor so I started over telling him every thing that was going on. He asked me if I new Jesus and or believed in Him and I said yes but haven't had a relationship with Him. Then he asked me if I asked for His forgiveness and to be the Lord of my life. My answer to that was no, the pastor asked me to repeat after him the sinners prayer and that if I wanted to I can say it in my own words. I said ok but then for some reason I just couldn't talk, it was like someone was holding me back. Suddenly I just burst into tears and cried out to the Lord begging for forgiveness and asking Him to be my Lord. I even ended up falling on the floor off of my chair in the process. Then all of the sudden just like a light switch turning a light on or off I was experiencing an awesome heavenly peace that was just unexplainable and it lasted for about 3 days.

There came a time that I started to feel like I felt helpless cause I new what I have become and satan was on a warpath cause he new that I found out I have been deceived and was thirsty for the truth. I went to church about a week and a half later and heard a wonderful sermon, at the end of the sermon I felt lead to walk up to the alter and I have repented in the name of Jesus of all my sins and asked the Lord into my life in Jesus name. I was all ready a Christian but had to re-dedicate my life to the Lord. The whole church was around me and praying on me while I was up there. Thank you Jesus!!!!! I was baptized August 19th of 2001 on what would have been my dads 73rd birthday if he was here.

This past August of 2004 was my second year anniversary on being a non-smoker thanks to our Lord Jesus cause without him I would not have been able to do it.

My mother and I moved to Irmo, South Carolina June 15th of 2003, My sister & I have been going to the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in America Congregation (PCA) which I have been a member since Nov. 2nd of 2003, isn't God wonderful?

This is my testimony & story for now & I pray it will touch some ones life in an awesome way.

In His unfathomable grace & love

Jay

CHALLENGE OF THE MONTH

We really should be getting into Godís word, as much as we possibly can. We would like to encourage you with a challenge each month, to memorize a portion of Scripture. So, we will provide a passage, and hope that you will take the time to study it daily. If you are already doing this on your own, that is great--we just thought with prayer, and making it a bit easier for some folks, that we could help those who may not be doing this yet. All passages will be from the King James Version of the Bible. We do not mind other versions, and you can study it in whichever version you like. We have chosen KJV, because it is public domain. We pray that you will hide His word in your heart.

Psalm 40:5
Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

QUICK TIP OF THE MONTH
Submitted by: Barbara Lea Campbell

Ever notice how apple slices turn brown after they have been exposed to air a bit? An easy way to prevent this is to soak them in a lemon-lime carbonated soft drink (like 7-Up or Sprite. You can also soak them in lemon juice, but that sometimes effects the taste.. the soft drink doesn't. Slice the apples, pop in a bowl with the drink and let soak for about 5 minutes. Drain and put on plate. This will keep them pretty and crisp!

SKIPPING STONES
(A word of encouragement)
By: Denise Imbody

GOD OF ORDER

Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
--Psalms 25:4-5

When my husband and I used to help, along with others, in Kidís church, I used to find myself learning from the different object lessons, that we all would take turns doing. Even though we are not currently able to have a kidís church out reach at our church, Iím still finding that the Lord keeps teaching me different object lessons, through every day living. I know it should not be a shock to me, but Iíve just recently realized this. Godís glory, and wonder is continually revealed to me, and I am always surprised by it all. You would think that I would be used to it, but I never am.

The lesson that sticks out in my mind, the most, right now, is the one with 10 coins. I believe it was 10 nickels. Each nickel had a number on it ranging from 1 to 10. I remember this lesson illustrating how absurd the theory of evolution is. The teacher would stand up there, with these 10 numbered coins, and put them into a brown paper bag. Then the teacher would call up various different children (at different times), and ask them to pick out a coin. Telling them that they had to pick out number 1 first, and then 2, and then 3, and so on...in order like that. If they pulled a number out of sequence they had to put all the coins back into the bag.

This proved, how we have a God of order. A God of order, that created this world, and to think that we all just evolved from monkeys, who evolved from fish, and so on, was not possible. There would be no order, and that it just didnít make any sense.

Imagine that, a world created by an orderly God, and not just a random act, coming out of no where. Well, this has always made sense to me, but watching that object lesson, just put it into more perspective for me. I thought, how incredible that all was, and still is to this very day. Take a look around you and just think about it--a God of order--and not just a random act of events--makes complete sense, doesn't it?

BIBLE QUIZ

In this section, you will find five questions each month. Scripture references will sometimes be provided, but other times you will have to seek out the answers. We pray this will help you to get to know God's Word more.

1. In Deuteronomy 24 it says if you overlook a sheaf not to go back for it--it also says not to go over your olive branches a second time--it says to leave them for certain folks--who are they?

2. Who said this to whom?
"My daughter, listen to me. Don't go and glean in another field and don't go away from here. Stay here with my servant girls. Watch the field where the men are harvesting, and follow along after the girls. I have told the men not to touch you. And whenever you are thirsty, go and get a drink from the water jars the men have filled."

3. According to Luke chapter 10, when Jesus sent them out 2 by 2, how many did he send in total?

4. Also in Luke 10, Jesus tells them, that the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few, so they should do what?

5. What is the Bible reference for this Passage of Scripture?
Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
            though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.

In this section we will share, and recommend our favorite website, book, movie, or any other favorite things we can think of to share with you. These are all highly recommended.

CD of the Month: Greatest Hymns
Recommended by: Barbara Lea Campbell

Greatest Hymns by Selah

I grew up singing hymns in church and while I love Contemporary Christian music and Praise and Worship Choruses, there is still a part of my heart that swells when it hears a hymn. Combine that love with my great fondness for the group Selah and you have a winner! That is exactly what this CD is... a winner! Selah has compiled a CD of great hymns such as "Sweet By and By"... "It is Well"... "How Great Thou Art"... and many more. There is no doubt that these young adults learned these hymns in church growing up... you can hear the sweet familiarity as they sing. If you love hymns, you will love this CD. And if you are not familiar with hymns, this is a great way to get to know them!

Book of the Month: A Can of Peas
Recommended by: Barbara Lea Campbell

A Can of Peas by Tracie DePree

A friend introduced me to author Tracie DePree and her book, A Can of Peas. What a sweet and fun story! It is about a young city couple who leave the hustle and bustle of the city to live on the husband's grandparents' farm. They (the couple) are aiming for a simpler way of life.... but they learn that life, no matter where you are, is never simple! I saw bits of myself in several of the characters... and some of what I saw wasn't all that pleasant! It is a sweet story... not sugar coated and all rosy like some books, but very true to life. This is the first book in a trilogy. The other two are Dandelions in a Jelly Jar and Aprons on the Clothesline. If you want something fun and uplifting, then try A Can of Peas.

Movie of the Month: The Cross and the Switchblade
Recommended by: Denise Imbody

We recently went to view this classic movie at our church's coffee house. It was the first time my kiddos had seen it, and the second time for me. Of course the first time I saw it I was only 12 or 13, and didn't really remember much about it. At that time, I was also unsaved, and didn't really "get it"...and all I remembered about it, is that it was kind of scary, but I thought I would like to see it again, and wanted my children to see it as well...so off we went.

To my surprise it wasn't as bad as I remembered...although I would recommend that little ones definitely watch it with their parents, because of some of the contents of some of the scenes--violence and drugs--and I think there were like a total of 3 swears. It is based on a true story and these are actual events, so they felt it important to keep them all in tact.

The Cross and the Switchblade is about David Wilkerson's call to New York city in the 1950's, and how he was called to reach out to gang's especially. He was highly drawn to one gang member in particular--Nicky Cruise--so much so that he visited his home at 3 in the morning, to tell him how Jesus loves him.

This movie was made in 1970 (I believe), and some of the actors are highly known--Pat Boone, and Eric Estrada--to be exact. I do believe this is available on DVD, and recommend it, especially for outreach, but it is a good family movie to have in the home as well...check it out!
