JEM-PRECIOUS STONES
(Issue #46 -- VICTORY IN JESUS -- October 2006)

Well, it's been a struggle, but we have Victory in Jesus once again with this, the latest issue of JEM Precious Stones! The enemy has been giving us a hard time – but Christ has overcome!

It's October – and Halloween is just a few days away. I'd like to take just a moment to remember the little children who will soon be wandering the streets. Join me in praying that God's hand be on these innocent ones; protecting them from the darkness – both physical and spiritual -- and bringing them safely home… In Jesus name, Amen!

In His Service,
Matt

Well, here is your chance...if you'd just like to comment on the E-zine or if you have something on your mind about current events that you'd like to share...as long as they are clean and family oriented and NOT against God and His Word...please feel free to share them with us, and we'll use them if we can.

It took just one to say no more reading the Bible in school.
It took just one.

It took just one to say no more prayer in school.
It took just one.

It took just One to die on the cross for our sins.
It took just One.

It takes just one to ask Him in their life.
It takes just one.

But once that one does the asking...
They become part of a family of many.

If it took just one to remove Bible and prayer...
How much more can we do as many?

It's time to stand firm, and proclaim the VICTORY IN JESUS...we all do have!

WORD IN ACTION
By: Kristina

"You will be secure, because there is hope; you will look about you and take your rest in safety. You will lie down, with no one to make you afraid, and many will court your favor." - Job 11:18-19

Watching the news has become painful these past few months. The news has never really been pleasant, but lately it seems more and more pain is covering our towns, our states, our world. Sometimes such pain can cause a crisis of faith in people, making them wonder how a good God can allow such horrific violence. Sometimes it causes faith to grow stronger, reminding us that this world is not our home. But no matter what happens within your heart, a crisis or a growth of faith, we can always turn to God's Word and be comforted by His words and promises.

"He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord." - Psalm 112:7

It can be difficult to live out this verse, striving to have no fear of bad news. With everything that goes on around us, it would be easy to gather your family close and never leave home. Fear is what controls many people, but God is telling us to have no fear of bad news. But how can we do this when we are prone to worry and fret?

"Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track." - Proverbs 3:5-6

God's answer is right there: He will keep us on track. We don't have to figure everything out, we just need to listen for His voice in everything we do and everywhere we go. He loves us more than we can comprehend, and what He asks is not that we understand, but rather that we just trust. He will work everything out. His protection covers us, His blessings are with us, His voice guides our path. Through His word, and His love, He whispers just two words in this scary world: Trust Me.

"The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe." - Proverbs 18:10

VICTORY IN JESUS
By: Barbara Lea Campbell

"Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Cor. 15:57

Most of us think of winning when we hear the word Victory. The Allies won a victory in WWII... football teams win victories each Saturday in the fall.... George W. Bush won a victory when elected President of the United States... Victory equals winning. But not all victories are from a physical victory.

I love how Webster's 1828 Dictionary puts it...

"The advantage or superiority gained over spiritual enemies, over passions and appetites, or over temptations, or in any struggle or competition."

To me, those are the greatest, most meaningful victories. Victories over strongholds... sins... temptation. Remember the Word tells us that our battles are not with flesh and blood.... they are not of this world..

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Eph. 6:12

It can be scary to realize who we are up against.. the powers of this dark world... spiritual forces of evil... but we have no need to fear. Remember He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

So how do we have Victory in Jesus. I mean we know we have it.. the Bible tells us we do.. but how do we live it... live victorious? The main thing is to claim victory... to BELIEVE that we are victorious in Christ... to take God at His Word.

There is a wonderful example of Victory in Jesus found in 2 Chronicles 20... yes 2 Chronicles is an Old Testament book... but Jesus is seen throughout the Word, not just in the New Testament. Remember He told us "I and the Father are one."

In 2 Chronicles 20, Judah is under the leadership of King Jehoshaphat. As the chapter opens, Jehoshaphat learns that the Moabites and Ammonites are coming to make war on Judah. Jehoshaphat is frightened by this, but instead of caving in to that fear he chooses to look to the Lord. In verses 5 - 12, you can read his prayer...he cries out to the Lord... and he acknowledges that he and his people cannot win this battle.

2 Chr. 20:12 "O our God, will you not judge them. For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you." That is a key part of walking in victory... keeping your eyes on Jesus, not on your circumstances. Realize that you have no power of your own, but you know the One who does.

I love the Lord's response...

2 Chr. 20:15 "Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's."

Isn't that exciting to know! The battle isn't ours.. it is God's! He doesn't even require us to fight...

2 Chr. 20:17 "You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your position stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you.... do not be afraid, do not be discouraged. Go out and face them... and the Lord will be with you."

How exciting is that!? God fights for us... we just have to take our position and stand firm. This call to stand firm is repeated throughout the New Testament.

Eph.6:11 "Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes."

Victory is yours through Christ... no matter what you are up against... an addiction, an emotional stronghold, illness, financial troubles, persecution, etc. Give it to Jesus.. set your eyes on Him .... and stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you!

TESTIMONY TIME

My Testimony: By Denise Imbody

Recently we had a friend come and stay with us for a 6 week period. Now, most might think that is a long time to visit someone, and I suppose that would be true for most. But our friend needed some time away from her life/world for a bit, and we were the place she chose as her sabbatical..and we were happy to be there for her. :)

Well, as most of you know a 6 week visit is a good chunk of time, and you would think that there must have been times when the visit became very intense.

I do have to say for the most part we all got a long just great. There was a time or 2 though that it was pretty intense.

I have felt lead to write about the most intense one, and I know that my dear friend will not mind, and probably totally agree with me on how the Lord moved.

A situation arose that we needed to address, and we weren't sure how to go about it. See, the day we had to deal with this, our friend had a really bad headache...so we were trying to hold off on talking with her until she felt better.

Well, the day just seem to go on and on and on...and her headache was not seeming to go away. I felt the tension intensifying, and it was getting a little overwhelming for me. I decided what I needed to do was go to my room, and just pour my heart and feelings out to the Lord, and just tried to leave the whole thing with Him.

Well, sure enough bedtime rolled around, and even though we felt like we needed to discuss this situation, we felt like we needed to wait until she was feeling better.

I went to her room and said good night, as I did each night she was here, and she asked if I could come talk with her. So, I did, and it was amazing...the very things I poured out to the Lord, alone in my room (and believe me, she did NOT hear me..she was staying on a totally different floor), she said to me..and I thought..."Lord, You just truly are so VERY awesome!"...and we were able to work it out before bed, and I didn't "have to" do a thing...I left it with God to handle...and He did.

This is just one of my many experiences that I have learned, that when I actually do "let go" of something for the Father to work on..He answers so much faster..probably because my childish little hands are not in His way.

Well, I hope this testimony blesses someone as it has me. :)

Please remember that these types of testimonies are welcome, just as much as the salvation testimonies. :)

CHALLENGE OF THE MONTH

We really should be getting into God’s word, as much as we possibly can. We would like to encourage you with a challenge each month, to memorize a portion of Scripture. So, we will provide a passage, and hope that you will take the time to study it daily. If you are already doing this on your own, that is great--we just thought with prayer, and making it a bit easier for some folks, that we could help those who may not be doing this yet. All passages will be from the King James Version of the Bible. We do not mind other versions, and you can study it in whichever version you like. We have chosen KJV, because it is public domain. We pray that you will hide His word in your heart.

1 Corinthians 15
56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

CRAFT OF THE MONTH
Submitted by: Denise Imbody

During this month of October, we are aware that it can be a scary time for some, because of the holiday that is celebrated on the 31st, so we thought we would focus on a craft that might help those find some peace.

Materials Needed:
Poster board
Orange and Brown Construction Paper
Scissors
Glue
Markers

Scripture Reference:
Psalm 4:8;NLT
I will lie down in peace and sleep,
for You alone, O LORD, will keep me safe.

What To Do:

***SIDE NOTE: Depending on the ages of the children you will be working with you might need to do some preparation ahead of time.***

1. Write the Scripture Reference at the top of your poster board.
2. draw small pumpkins--not too small, so words can be written on them--on the orange construction paper.
3. Cut them out.
4. Draw and cut stems out of the brown construction paper, and glue to top of pumpkins.
5. Have the children write one thing they are afraid of on each of the pumpkins, and glue onto the poster board.
6. Have them finish their picture by drawing and coloring in the rest of the pumpkin patch.
7. Discuss with them how their picture can remind them that the Lord is with them and keeping them safe always, and that they can sleep in peace knowing this.

Be creative and have fun!

***If you have an original recipe, quick tip, or craft, that you would like to share with us, please send it in with your first and last name, and your email address to Precious_Stones@JEMMinistries.org. SKIPPING STONES
(A word of encouragement)
By: Denise Imbody

I have to admit that I do NOT know the hymns as well as I should, but the ones that I do know, I dearly love. VICTORY IN JESUS is one of those, and the words in that hymn speak volumes on their own, and do NOT need me to elaborate on them....so this hymn is what I feel should be our WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT this month...

1 Corinthians 15:57
"But thanks be to God, which giveth us
the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

I heard an old, old story,
How a Savior came from glory,
How He gave His life on Calvary
To save a wretch like me;
I heard about His groaning,
Of His precious blood's atoning,
Then I repented of my sins
And won the victory.

Chorus
O victory in Jesus,
My Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory,
Beneath the cleansing flood.

I heard about His healing,
Of His cleansing pow'r revealing.
How He made the lame to walk again
And caused the blind to see;
And then I cried, "Dear Jesus,
Come and heal my broken spirit,"
And somehow Jesus came and bro't
To me the victory.

Chorus
O victory in Jesus,
My Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory,
Beneath the cleansing flood.

I heard about a mansion
He has built for me in glory.
And I heard about the streets of gold
Beyond the crystal sea;
About the angels singing,
And the old redemption story,
And some sweet day I'll sing up there
The song of victory.

Chorus
O victory in Jesus,
My Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory,
Beneath the cleansing flood.

CD of the Month: Anything Worth Saying
Recommended by: Kristina

Anything Worth Saying by Aaron Shust

Aaron Shust's song "My Savior My God" has been setting records on the Christian charts for the past few months, and I knew it was only a matter of time before I picked up this album. Aaron, with his calm, deep singing voice and spiritually moving lyrics has moved a lot of hearts with his first single, and the rest of his album, Anything Worth Saying, does not disappoint. He is among the first in a new wave of singers and songwriters returning to the basics of Christian music, eloquently writing modern day hymns. Just as lyrically powerful as the ancient hymns, Aaron adds a new spin and modern music to the timeless art of raising one's voice to worship God.

I had the pleasure of seeing Aaron Shust in concert this past month, and left in awe at his ability to connect with his listeners by inviting them in his worship of the Lord. He said something after he performed the first three songs that has stayed with me since. He said, "I could have just sang those previous three songs, mouthing the words, not really thinking about what they mean. But what do they mean? 'My Savior loves, my Savior lives, my Savior's always there for me. My God: He was, my God: He is, my God is always gonna be.' Think about what those words really mean."

That one quote sums up Aaron's entire album. He wants us to really ponder the words, the meaning, the reality that God sent His Son and loves us more than we could ever comprehend. He captures this awe in Anything Worth Saying, and I highly recommend this album for these reasons and many more. This is a timeless, beautiful album.

Book of the Month: The Kinship and Courage Trilogy
Recommended by: Barbara Lea Campbell

The Kinship and Courage Trilogy by Jane Kirkpatrick

Kirkpatrick's books are Historic Fiction.. a bit like Beverly Lewis in that they are very detailed.. I learn a lot reading her works... but that is where the similarity ends. The Kinship & Courage Trilogy is set in the late 1800s ... with a wagon train headed to California. It is based on a journal entry from someone on a real wagon train. Their group met another wagon train heading back home. It was all women (with a few children).. the men and most of the children had died of cholera and they were going home. Kirkpatrick takes this event ... women on the trail alone.. but in her series the women press onward to the west. Her characters are fully developed and seem to be real people... and the events in their life, while adventurous at times, don't seem to be contrived. They are realistic and plausible for the time and place of the books setting. The first book is All Together in One Place... next comes No Eye Can See and the last one is What Once We Loved. You can read about Kirkpatrick and her books at her website... http://www.jkbooks.com/
