What Must I Do To Be Saved?

The apostle Paul was once asked this question and the answer he gave was surprisingly simple. In a moment we will look at that answer in the Bible, but first, I'd like to take a little trip down The Romans Road to Salvation...

Romans 3:23 -- "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God:"

Romans 6:23 -- "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Romans 5:8 -- "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Acts Christ died for us."

Romans 10:9-10 -- "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Romans 10:13 -- "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

Can you imagine that? God loves you so much that He suffered and died the death that you deserved! He was beaten and humiliated so that your debt the debt that sin has brought upon you might be paid. He took your sin upon Himself, and now all you need do is call out to Him!

ACTS 16:29-31 -- "Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house."

What must I do to be saved? The answer is, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ! You see, there's nothing you can do to "earn" salvation. It is a free gift, and is offered to all men and women without reservation. Just believe in Jesus! Trust in Him with all your being. Confess your sins to Him, and ask Him to make you a new creature! He longs for you to cry out to Him! He longs to save you!

Will you pray this little prayer with me?

Dear Lord, I am a sinner. I'm not worthy to have eternal life to live forever with you! I have tried on my own, and failed miserably! I need You, Jesus! Come into my life and straighten up the mess I have made! Clean me up, dust me off, clothe me in Your righteousness, and show me the love that caused You to die on that cross in my place. The punishment for my sin is death but you took my sin upon yourself so that I might live! Show me how to live for You, Jesus! Show me how to tell others about You, Jesus! Show me how to please You, Jesus! In Jesus Name I pray, Amen!

Now what? One of the best things you can do right now is tell somebody! Do you know someone who is a Christian? Go tell them you are one, too! You can also write to us at We are here to rejoice with you, pray for you, and help you on your journey to Heaven!

You also need to start praying to God and reading your Bible. It's important to communicate with your new Best Friend. Prayer and The Bible are two good ways to communicate back and forth with The Lord. The Bible is God's love letter to you, and it is full of wise council, wonderful promises, and perfect truth. If you read it with an open mind, and after praying for understanding, there's no limit to what God could show you! If you don't have a Bible, you can read it online at Remember, if you get into God's Word, it will get into you!

And, finally, you need to find a fellowship of Bible believing Christians. Your new pastor will help you understand the truths of God, and help you grow in your new-found faith! If you have any trouble finding a church, please feel free to drop us a note at the above e-mail address, and we will do all we can to help you.

Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. --1 Thessalonians 5:16-22
